Sagging of the breasts occurs usually after pregnancy, breastfeeding, excessive weight gain and loss or after menopause. In such cases, the skin loses its elasticity and starts sagging and show some deformation. The nipple sags until reaching the inframammary fold or falls below it.
With the operation called breast lift or “mastopexy”, the excess skin is removed, the nipple is brought to the optimum position, and then the sagging breast tissue is reshaped. If the breasts are big, the excess breast tissue is removed; and if they are small, they are supported with silicone implants. Breast lifting surgeries are done in combination with breast reduction in women with big and sagging breasts; and in combination with breast augmentation in patients with breasts that have collapsed and drooped after giving birth or losing weight.
